“Something So Strong” was a single from the debut album (called Crowded House) from the legendary Australian/New Zealand band, Crowded House.
I have seen these guys perform live during three decades; the 1980’s, the 1990’s and the 2000’s. A truly great band :)

Pseudo Echo were an Australian band that formed in 1982 and were together until 1990. They reformed in 1999 and continue to tour.
This song, “Listening”, was the first single from their first album, “Autumnal Park”.

You can’t get much more 80’s then the outfits and the haircuts they have as well :)

Back before everyone had heard of the name Will Smith, he used to be known as The Fresh Prince and rose to music stardom as the lead singer of a Hip Hop group called “DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince”.
The song “I think i can beat Mike Tyson” was the lead single from the groups third album, “And in This Corner…”, which was released in 1989.

While i keep hunting for IBM ads that i have archived away from my time working in adland, i thought i might post up a few others that i have found around the web.
The flaming logo ad was one of the classic IBM eBusiness ads of the dotcom period.
Flaming Logo
Obviously a lot of other people thought this ad was funny at the time because i remember running across a website that allowed you type in text and it created a “flaming” GIF file from it…and so we created the flaming Singleton OgilvyInteractive logo…

OK..time for some more videos and stuff from the 1980’s…this could go on for a while ;)
“Pump up The Volume” (1987) was the only single ever released by the group known as M|A|R|R|S.
“Pump up the Volume” (IMDB) was also the title of a great movie that was released in 1990 starring Christian Slater.

Spotted this “literal version” of the A-ha video clip for “Take On Me” over at Mahalo….brilliant :)
To appreciate it you probably need to watch the original clip first.

I was scouring through a bunch of old VHS tapes of mine form the 1980’s that i’ve digitised in the last few years and i ran across this great piece of comedy.
“Australiana” was released by Austen Tayshus in the early 1980’s.

Rant time…
Someone obviously thought that in Australia they need to force people who want to use the great Microsoft online mapping service, Live Search Maps, to utilise a crippled version under the ninemsn banner through a DNS redirect.
I went to maps.live.com to check a location that i had saved to my “collections”…and after being redirected (without any option given to me) to http://maps.ninemsn.com.au/ I discovered that i couldn’t log-in to access my collections because the log-in feature and a bunch of other functionality had disappeared completely.
Someone had obviously discovered this problem a lot earlier than i had because i found this little comment stream on the ninemsnlocal spaces blog:
Ian

Hi, I sent you a message via this site which I trust you received? Would be very happy to have some feedback regarding the lack of functionality on the Australia-localised version of live maps vs the rest of the world.
Cheers

Hi, thanks for your feedback. On September 25th a DNS redirect occured which pushes Australian users going to maps.live.com to the Australian site. We are in the process of upgrading our site with all the exact same features which the US site currently has.
You can still access all the normal features which you explain to be missing at the usual US site - http://maps.live.com/?mkt=en-us.
Regards,
Dean
I’ll quite happily give Dean from ninemsn some credit for getting back to the question that Ian posed pretty quickly…but which nuthead thought they should push this feature out without actually telling anyone or giving people the option to choose?
I have a number of links on various sites that point people to items on live maps which suddenly don’t work unless i go and change the links…heres an example below:
According to that comment stream, they will fix the problem..but i still think it shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place…grrrr….
