So why TechEvents.com.au?
Simple. I found that even between Meetup, Upcoming, CalendarHub and Eventful, they just didn’t list all of the technology events being held in Melbourne. Many groups, event organisers and vendors don’t list their events on third party websites.

TechEvents.com.au doesn’t aim to be yet another calendar service, but rather it aims to be an outlet where several individuals from a variety of groups submit events they hear about or are involved with. Our focus is on making sure we’ve got the content, not so much the application. We expect the majority of our users will export the events they are interested in directly into their calendar of choice.

Other than the main site, which is devoted to Melbourne events, they also have a site in beta which is designed to cover tech events in other Australian states.

Unfortunately between early October 2007 and late February 2008 I had a period where the blog backend had a dummy spit and i was unable to post anything, so my stats are way down from last year…

Back in my podcasting days (as a co-founder of The Podcast Network and as a co-host of G’day World), Doc was one of the amazing people that i am glad we got to interview :)

The next Domain night in Melbourne is being held on Thursday the 26th of June at Port 1010 Digital Harbour (1010 Latrobe Street, Docklands, Melbourne - the light blue icon on this map). The doors open at 6pm and the interview begins at around 7pm.

This event will once again utilse the interviewing talents of one of Australia’s best technology writer’s/journalist’s, Brad Howarth, who will put his skills to work interviewing both the AIMIA (Australian Interactive Media Industry Association) CEO and National President, John Butterworth and Guy Gadney.

John Butterworth, CEO AIMIA
John Butterworth joined AIMIA as Chief Executive Officer in July 2004 and has worked extensively in digital content and marketing since 1996.

For a number of years John was the General Manager of online media at OzEmail Ltd and then held the roles of Managing Director, Asia-Pacific at Sabela Media, and General Manager of Decide Interactive.

John is also the founder of the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Australia and continues to sit on the IAB board.

Guy Gadney, President of AIMIA
Guy Gadney is the current President of AIMIA and the General Manager of Digital Services for PBL Media.

Prior to that, he was Director of Content Production for Telstra BigPond, overseeing the broadband and narrowband sites for AFL, V8 Supercars, GameArena, Music Downloads. He joined BigPond after leading and completing the delivery of the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and Games channels for the launch of FOXTEL Digital.

Guy began working in new media in the late 80’s and has produced projects for laserdisc, CD-ROM, internet, multiplayer games and interactive TV. He was Head of Multimedia for Penguin Books UK in the mid-nineties before going on to produce large-scale websites for the band Oasis, the Guardian newspaper’s Football and Cricket sites, and the FoxKids European internet rollouts.

In 1999 he joined BBC Worldwide looking after all the interactive TV and broadband developments. While there he conceived and produced over 30 broadband and interactive projects for a variety of BBC licences including Top of the Pops, Top Gear, the Rough Guides series and Gardener’s World.

After the BBC, Guy produced the online massively multiplayer game Diaspora which pitted thousands of online players against each other simultaneously, and the development of 3D games engines for PC and Playstation. The Diaspora technology was also used as a basis for a multiplayer quiz engine which was used by Sky, NME, Eurosport, Wisden, and a number of other movie, TV and sports websites. His interactive TV work during this time included leading the production of the four interactive TV portals for Fish4.co.uk, and two EPGs for UK cable TV and the Radio Times.

Guy has been on the judging panel of BAFTA’s interactive awards in the UK and AIMIA in Australia, and is Director of a UK-based production company specialising in 3D virtual worlds and non-linear narratives.

As always, the event is free but you need to register at the domain site…it will no doubt be another great event so see you on the night :)

Note: I sit as a Director on the National Board of AIMIA.
