The Crew

Digging through boxes from your past reminds you of a lot of stuff...some good...some bad...and some just downright strange. It gives you a really good picture of how (and why) you got to where you currently are in life and the important moments along the way...here's some of my back story...

In 1987, when i left high school (where I was essentially a media geek who worked on all the school plays and all the school videos, played with computers and ran the weekly D&D game for the other geeks who i used to hang out with), and getting back into computers, the whole internet thing and virtual reality in the early 1990's, i used to spend most of my time working as a lighting designer for rock shows, corporate events, theatre shows and dance tours around Australia.

My Back Stage passes

Back in those days as a lighting designer you used to have draw all of your lighting plots (designs) by hand using a plastic stencil and a good quality marker pen onto a sheet of A3 or A2 paper. Then autocad kicked in...this was the late 1980's and it was so cool to do your designs straight onto a computer even if it did cost a fortune to buy autocad and the lighting / sound /staging plugin.

Lighting Design Stencil

I also used to production and technical manage the odd touring show as well and then i became a part owner of a company that owned a band rehearsal and recording facility in Ringwood Victoria called "Backstage Studios" and another company with the same partners that provided "road crew" to shows that were going on predominately in Victoria...and we had a really clever name..."The Crew"....last weekend while going through some boxes I found a bundle of unused tshirts that we made up for our "roadies".

The Crew

That box of tshirts brought back some great memories of some of the stuff i worked on...the list is long...but its certainly explains my love of the 80's and ealry 90's culture :)
