Me…for hire…

Posted by Mick (SplaTT) Stanic under: Digital Thoughts; Personal; Work .

That’s right…the big news of the week month year is that after months of trying to make my mind up one way or the other, I have finally decided to leave the confines of my current employer (Singleton OgilvyInteractive) and to head out into the real world and run my own company, so on Friday I handed in my resignation letter.

It has taken me a long time to make this decision and I’m not going to focus on why I am leaving one of Australia’s largest advertising companies, where I head up what is one of the oldest interactive / digital departments in existence in Australia, but I do want to say a few things about the last four and a half years of my life.

As a senior staff member, I was responsible for employing most of the staff in my department since I started at the company, and one thing that is hard to remember when you get caught up in the day-to-day running of a company, is that people are an important part of any business. And a really important thing about hiring people as I have said before is, when you employ people you need to make sure that they have passion and really believe in the space that they are working in. If they don’t have a passion for what they do, it will be at the detriment of both of you. And if they do have passion, not only will your business go far and become a leader in its field, but the employee will have the chance to go far as well. This is true with companies as well, they need the passion as much as the individual. If that

well done mate and congratulations.

Hey - in terms of advertising agencies - are there any in Australia that would put ads on blogs?

I’ve struggled to find a media seller who is willing to take on my biggest site (260,000 visitors per month and on the rise - technology based site).

Any thoughts on where I should head?

Hi Darren…thats part of the reason for making my decision…i think that not only Australian marketing/comms agencies but marketing/comms agencies around the world really need to be educated about the value of blogs (and now podcasts) and hopefully i can be part of that education process…feel free to drop me an email at splatt[at]splatt.com.au and we can have a chat…

Good for you matey.

Just had a look at the site and it looks good. I know you’ll succeed with this great venture…

…who knows, I might even give up the snow and cold of Canada to come home and grovel to you for a job.

mate, stumbled across your site through continuing my research for my business that pushes digital signage to install into businessess and sells advertising space and content management for these screens.
i am 30, have 15 years experience in nightclubs, pubs, bars, retail stores, events and marketing, advertising and have alot of good contacts that have helped me get my business past research stage. i have 10 locations and about to grow beyond my control and think you are definitly a man to speak with regarding growth and possible pointers to grow with similar like minded people with creative and techno flair

I totally agree with what you’re saying. I wish more people felt this way and took the time to express themselves. Keep up the great work.
