Šarplaninac

Posted by Mick (SplaTT) Stanic under: Personal .

Always wanted one of these…though i assume they would be pretty hard to find in Australia :(

The Šarplaninac (pronounced shar-pla-NEE-natz)…also called the Macedonian Shepherd Dog, comes from the high mountains of Macedonia in the Balkan region of southern Europe.

It has been used for centuries as a livestock guarding breed by mountain shepherds to ward of wolves and Balkan bears.

One Comment so far...

We have a Sarplaninac – there is a breeder in Vic. We got ours from a breeder in Queanbeyan, NSW, but I don’t think they are still breeding. Wonderful dog – I would recommend one for everybody.
