The Half Donna – attempt 1
Posted by Mick (SplaTT) Stanic under: Bike .
So as i mentioned in my last blog post, my new VELOCITA Road Bike (complete with a Shimano Tiagra group set and some carbon components) is a pretty good ride, and on top of clocking up some km’s around Melbourne during the evenings, last Sunday on the 26th of August 2007 i attempted a serious little mountain climb thats known as “The Half Donna”.
While “The Half Donna” is not a long ride, it only goes for around 7.5km, in that distance it manges to go from 170m to 670m above sea level with an avergae gradient of 6.9% as it climbs halfway up the longer Mt Donna Buang ride (pdf about Mt Donna Buang), which is in the Yarra Ranges National Park in the lovely Upper Yarra Valley region of Victoria.
I certainly didn’t log the fastest time out of the 59 currently logged attempts (i actually now have the slowest time logged for the Half Donna ride on the cycle2max web site), but the fact that this was my first serious mountain climb on a road bike and that i didn’t have a heart attack…i actually feel pretty damn good about my 45 minute and 10 second 1st ever attempt at it and at least now i have a time to try and better on my next attempt :)
