Do Linux geeks need to dress better???

Posted by Mick (SplaTT) Stanic under: Attire .

This is a bizarre story about the Linux community needing to dress better to impress the corporate market.

Hogwash i say. When i see people who normally don’t do the suit thing suddnely wearing a suit…i get worried…somethings just not right. They don’t look comfortable, they don’t talk the same, they don’t act the same..its just wrong.

And lets get it straight as well…Windows and Mac developers tend to not be the most fashionably dressed poeple in the world either, not that i walk around in attire designed by Gucci or Dolce & Gabbana…but its probably something to do with sitting in front of a computer most of the week not lend itself to developing a fashion sense. Just look at Bill gates…sorry Bill, but sweaters haven’t been in fashion for a while…but Bill doesn’t have to dress himself up, people know who he is and his fashion sense doens’t make any difference to their opinion of him or his company…and it shouldn’t…plus…he also looks like he feels pretty uncomfortable in a suit and tie….as a lot of us do.

But I agree, sometimes its needed…i remember a while ago a few blog posts appearing about what happend to J. Allard’s “look” when he started to get into the full swing of the XBOX360 thing which is aimed at trendy 18-35 yeard olds. Was this the result of J (and his wife) sprussing his image up..or was it just the Microsoft PR machine working its magic??
