Creative Commons in Australia

Creative Commons, the international project started in 2002 to “build a layer of reasonable, flexible copyright in the face of increasingly restrictive default rules” which has some brilliant people on its board like Lawrence Lessig and Joi Ito is certainly picking up interest.

Creative Commons and the actual license structure is getting plenty of blog time because of things like the Commons Benfit Concert (press release) in New York in September and the release of the Wired CD with the November issue of Wired magazine.

They are also working on providing/porting localised versions of the concept called “International Commons” and Australia is included in the list of countries currently being looked at. The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) under the three project lead; Tom Cochrane, Brian Fitzgerald and Ian Oi, have been working hard to make the Autralian port a reality according to this recent article in the SMH.


Not only have they got some good press, but they have also organised a conference called
