Australian GeekDinner

Posted by Mick (SplaTT) Stanic under: GeekDinner .

As i hinted in my last post, we are planning the first geek dinner in Australia (well..maybe not the first) to be held in Canberra on Wednesday the 4th of August.

Why Canberra you ask….well…since a lot of geeks will be in Canberra for Microsoft TechEd it seemed like a good enough place to kick the whole thing off…start time will be around 8pm and if you happen to know somewhere in Canberra’s Civic area with WiFi that will put up with a bunch of noisy geeks post a comment…the location will be locked down by Thursday night at the latest….

hey…i wonder if we can get Eric Rudder to come along since he will be in town for TechEd??? That should make Scoble jelous…

I have to thank Mark Baartse for recommending the timing and Frank Arrigo for helping to spread the rumour ;)

Apparently Powerband - http://www.powerband.com.au - have a free WiFi access point in Civic at “Northern Garema Place”…anyone know any good cafes around that area that are open on a Wednesday night and meet the geekdinner criteria???

Eric has a dinner scheduled with Tony Ward, Norbert Haehnel at this time…but i can certainly suggest they swing by after for drinks!

As to a location suggestion - How about Woodstocks on City Walk?

As a canberra local i think i can safely say that all the cafes there are much for a muchness. The biggest thing that needs to be worked out is how many people are expected to show up? None of the cafes are particularly huge…and if all teched attendees show up you’re in for some trouble.

Why not live the american life and goto Starbucks? :) They’re more ’southern garema place’ but garema place isn’t that big…maybe show up there early and test the range, and leave instructions on where you are at the big ass chess board in the middle of garema place :)
